Pump maintenance tips

Business

To improve the efficiency of your pump, you have to keep it in optimal condition. This is best done through regular maintenance by a professional technician. However, there are basic daily checks that you need to conduct to keep the machine running and protected. You should always check to ensure that the speed of the pump corresponds with the horsepower output. You also need to check out for wear and tear, fissure and leakages. Maintaining your pump daily helps you avoid damage and cut down costs.

Daily maintenance

As the pump continues to run daily, it accumulates material which can partially its block vents and therefore making it hard to pump. When that happens, the pump vibrates and this interferes with its performance. Check also to ensure that the speed of the water pump corresponds with the output in the horsepower. Check out also for wear and tear and this can be prevented through regular maintenance.

Monthly maintenance

You need to have a monthly checklist which will help you determine what you need to observe and when. It should include, but be not limited to, mending and sealing broken or worn-out parts. Use the laid out specifications to oil the bearings. Confirm that the water pump is perfectly and firmly raised. Change the motor couplings also to ensure efficiency.

Yearly pump maintenance

If you have some experience with pumps, you can do the daily checks. However, when it comes to monthly and annual checks, it’s best to contact a professional to do the maintenance. This is someone who has the training and skills to check your pump thoroughly; do repairs and recommend replacements where necessary. Having an expert attend to your machine will increase your level of knowledge which is helpful for your routine maintenance. An annual maintenance program will also allow for an overall assessment of the pump and depending on the performance and cost, you may find it more economical to replace it.

On-demand checks

Even with the routine checks, the pump may develop issues and even breakdown. This will happen mostly if the pump has been running for long hours or it’s old. When you notice some irregular noise or it fails to work, you need to contact your technician and let them do a check. Ensure you have a pump company on stand-by so that in case of an emergency you don’t get stranded.

Electrical and motor inspection

Always ensure that the terminations are held tightly. Check the vents and windings to ensure there’s no dust and clean as per the manufacturer’s manual. Inspect the starter for overheating, arcing and such irregularities. Again, you need to confirm that there’s no insulation failure using a Megohmmeter.

Lubrication

The manufacturer has given guidelines usually in a manual or embedded on the machines. Use the guidelines to lubricate the motor and make sure you don’t over lubricate. The bearing can get damaged by over or under greasing.

If well maintained, following the manufacturer’s guidelines, your pump will have minimal problems and the cost of maintenance goes down as you increase its efficiency.
