Hyperion
Hyperion Resources, Inc. plans on building a 8-10 billion dollar refinery, called the Hyperion Energy Center, near Elk Point in Union County, South Dakota. The refinery will pipe in 400,000 barrels of sour crude from the Canadian oil sands per day via TransCanada’s proposed Keystone pipeline.
Status of the Refinery
The Hyperion energy center was recently granted its air permit by the South Dakota Board of Minerals. Next it needs to obtain a water quality permit to obtain and then discharge water used for cooling, steam generation and other refinery process uses. Construction is expected to begin in 2011, with the refinery coming into operation in 2015.
